Miracle Lake Tawakoni reshapes Texas water region
The Lake Tawakoni project transformed dry land into a bustling water recreation hub. Since 1960 the dam and reservoir have spurred 40 subdivisions, 1,900 boats, 250 homes, and $40 million in investment, funded by revenue bonds with Dallas first claim on water. The Sabine River Authority built the dam. Dallas financed intake works and roads, boosting towns like Terrell and Greenville. Two million residents lie within 20 miles of the lake as demand for water and recreation grows.
