Baytown City Council reappointed Steve Hebert as municipal court judge after an executive session on personnel matters. Raymond Donnelly was named associate judge, a first for a Baytown city judge. Both men are Baytown attorneys.

The Bayshore Rod, Reel and Gun Club will host its annual oyster fry from 11 a.m. to 7 30 p.m. on February 4 at the clubhouse 3223 Minnesota. Don Middleton notes it is one of the nation’s largest events serving more than 38 gallons of oysters to about 6 600 people with a 3 58 dollar plate price. Grover Edge handles to go orders and membership support is urged through the club. Jack Waller chairs the event with Eddie Heron overseeing the cooking detail.
Voter registration shows 25,876 Baytown residents eligible for a Saturday election on a single issue. Polls run 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. with expected rapid voting and no long lines despite uncertain turnout. The measure asks city council to authorize a water supply contract with BAWA, potentially enabling revenue bonds for a surface water plant.
Baytown City Council voted to oppose State Sen. Walter Mengden's bill to exempt farmers from groundwater pumping fees in the Harris Galveston Coastal Subsidence District. Mayor Gentry and several council members supported opposing the proposal, while some argued exemptions would undermine district efforts. State Rep. Bill Caraway frontend opposition warned changes could destroy the district and harm Harris and Galveston counties.
