Baytown saw subfreezing temps Friday night while forecasters predicted a warm weekend ahead. A Canadian cold front moving across the Plains was to reach Texas Saturday, dropping temperatures and bringing blowing dust in West Texas. The cold air mass would spread from the Panhandle Sunday night into Monday, with temperatures dipping below normal statewide.

Also reports a March court sanity hearing for Graham tied to a fatal airliner bomb incident.
Wilmington California 53 year old salesman David Brigham Darger was jailed on a fugitive warrant after deputies said he lived with Virginia Beth McDaniel and eight children. He admitted three other wives and 11 children in Salt Lake City, claiming religious belief supported his multi wife status. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints has long abandoned that doctrine. One wife is McDaniel’s sister.
RAL Wright, freight line operator, will head the La Porte Chamber of Commerce for the coming year. He is joined by T. T. Chase as first vice president and J. J. Hatcher as second vice president. Other officers include June Kirchner as treasurer EB Posey as manager and Mrs Saville Robertson recreation. Moody Jr seeks control of the Moody estate in a $53 to $100 million fortune dispute. A temporary restraining order blocks depositions from about 20 witnesses, issued by Judge Donald M. Markie and Judge Hugh Gibson at the Moody Foundation’s request amid accusations of mismanagement and fraud related to W. L. Moody’s wealth and his mother Lindy Moor’s estate.
Dallas Rangers joined Corsicana officials to curb violence amid a day-old strike at Oil City Iron Works. About 110 of 176 workers walked out. incidents included fire bombs, a shotgun blast at a worker home, and a striker hit by a company bus. Union leaders denied violence, while the company sought seniority protections in contract terms.
Mayor R W Pruett said he sent letters to Harris County registrars and to Sam Ford, Johnson and Albert Thomas urging faster disposal of the San Jacinto Ordinance depot near Channelview. County Commissioner Vo Ramsey requested the letters to view land for industrial development. the depot area covers about 2,000 acres on Market Street Road between Cloverleaf and Channelview.

Crosby police radio links Baytown and Liberty to track a couple in under 45 minutes after a Houston man was hijacked. A victim, described as a Houston Negro, called from Crosby claiming a 32 caliber pistol was used to steal $17. The couple fled in a described car. Baytown relayed the car description to Liberty, and ten minutes later a Liberty sheriff’s unit reported the pair captured and en route to Liberty County jail.
Austin reports 28 major legal reserve stock life companies formed the Texas Life Convention to make good on policies closed in 1956. They will cover policies issued before 1966 by legal reserve stock firms closed within 12 months beginning last Jan 1. Plan aims to ease public concern, says J Byron Saunders, Texas Insurance Commissioner, who has not yet received formal letter from the group.
Dayton serves Gur ifeary Ache as the drowned man, Evans of Mont Belvieu, dies on Jack's Pass during a fishing trip. Justice R. J. Jarnagin of Anahuac reports the incident.
