Baytown's first Councilwoman honored in funeral service
Velme Ansley-Nelson, Baytown’s pioneering 1960 City Council member, was remembered at Navarre Funeral Home as a trailblazer and beloved educator. Born Velma Jordan in 1925, she moved to Goose Creek in 1934, mentored generations as a secretary for Goose Creek CISD, and was active in Lakewood Church of Christ. She died just before turning 86, after a life of civic service and family.
