City Council weighs police car bids and foreign option
Council discussed bid specs allowing a 119 inch wheelbase and then an 11Binch standard enabling Dodge Coronets, with Police Chief Wilkinson defending the change as non_exploitative. Kemp & Tony won the bid for nine patrol cars and related vehicles for 25,084.47, while Courtesy Ford led pickup bids at 2,335.83 each plus 97.50 for automatics. Datsun bid arrived late but was considered. Kloesel opposed foreign cars until taxes paid by Japanese citizens, while Allen Cannon supported Datsun as economical.
