In two Baytown area WCIDs three posts were filled by unopposed candidates. In WCID 58 Craigmont Place area EB W Anderson led with 22 votes, Troy T Herring and C L Miller had 21 each with Herring the sole incumbent. In WCID 3 Highlands three incumbents Oliver M Harman Arthur J Lostak and Wallace E Dunks won two year terms.

UT speaker shares math and science insights with REL students

Dr Hyman Ettlinger, a University of Texas research scientist and mathematics professor, spoke to REL students on Wednesday during first to third periods and to the science seminar group at activity period. He attended a Baytown Rotary Club meeting at noon. Ettlinger, a Ping Beta Wappa graduate of Washington University and Harvard degrees holder, has written math texts and articles and served as a White House Conference on Education representative in 1958. He has coached and officiated in sports and has toured many foreign countries.

No Traffic Fatalities Here In 61 Baytown Year Report

Baytown Police report 1961 injuries from traffic accidents total 121 with no fatalities for the second straight year. Afternoon and evening saw 379 incidents vs 176 in the morning, 555 reportable accidents and 680 traffic violations. Minor, serious, and dizziness injuries totaled across 87 major accidents, with 46 percent minor incidents. Property damage reached about $1,669, injuries 167.79, and frequent causes included automobiles hitting fixed objects, drunk driving, and hit and run.

School District Tax Collections Up for Period

Social district tax collections rose 1.07 percent from the prior year per a report to the school board by Tax Assessor-Collector George L. Tennett. Current collections through December stood at 60.58 percent, versus 59.51 percent last year, with $2,724,437 collected since Sept. 1 through December that includes about $11,000 in non-vent collections. Remaining current collectible balance after December 31 is $1,965.
