Former County Official Matthews Found Guilty Of Forgery
Clyde Matthews former Runnels County surveyor was found guilty in 33rd District Court of check forgery and sentenced to five years in the state penitentiary. Witness Jackson Garrison of Abilene testified Matthews offered a tour with cashing checks and the August 14 Holloway Bros. Drilling Co. check passage was invalid. Garrison received a suspended sentence after testifying. Matthews claimed prior parole and veterans hospital release. A separate witness related to Garrison testified on forgery charges.
