Mars rover Spirit delayed by landing airbags and altered site
NASA reports the Spirit rover will roll off the lander later than planned due to two deflated airbags blocking the ramp. New images suggest the Gusev Crater site was not the pristine lake bed scientists hoped, complicating the search for evidence of past Martian water. The earliest roll date is January 14, with possible one to two day delays.

City weighs sale of Bagland Island with full ownership option
At a work session the council discussed selling Bagland Island and the marina in a single package, with a minimum bid of 3.7 million. If the entire island sale proceeds, a citywide referendum would be required due to parkland status, and a 25 000 election deposit would be due. Council also eyed creating a city marshal position and approving a firefighter contract reached after bargaining and concessions.
