Forces abandon Korean strongholds to pursue Chinese

United Nations forces abandoned Osan and Wonju as they retreated south toward the Pusan perimeter. Wonju highway 44 miles south of the 38th Parallel came under control after an all night street action while Osan near Seoul saw US forces move away from combat with the Reds.

Men Face Malice and Vandalism Charges in Houston Theatre Case

In Judge John Snell court at Houston, Coffman and J. E. Carr face malice and vandalism charges from a October strike incident at Bay Theatre. A theatre employee saw two men in the Bay Theatre parking lot and a beer can opener used to scratch cars was found in one suspect’s possession. Guards guarded the lot as cars were damaged during the strike last week. Names listed include RLS. BManne, 12 Price, and Wallace, 413 West Frances, Lee.

$2 Billion Navy Shipbuilding Plan Asks In New Bill

Washington lawmaker Carl Vinson introduced a bill to authorize a $2.6 billion Navy shipbuilding program calling for more than 80 ships including a super aircraft carrier. The plan, approved by the Defense Department and Budget Bureau, aims to start work immediately, with a 60,000 ton carrier targeted for completion in three years and two flush-deck ships in two years.

Air Force to Push Beyond 84 Groups Within Two Years

Under secretary John A. McCone said the Air Force will expand to substantially more than 84 groups within 18 to 24 months. He refused to specify an exact goal. Britain May Leap With UN If China Breaks Ties

Britain signaled possible UN break with Communist China and urged unity, saying if a split occurs members must leap together. Voters in Harris County Water Control and Improvement District No 1 at Highlands choose two directors with incumbents B G Stong and T O Brinson running against W E Bill Cullison. Tugboat disaster leaves search for body ongoing

A tugboat named East Bay sank in the ship channel near Red Light Bend during a night squall. Deckhand Donald Moore, 22, disappeared after screaming for help as the vessel overturned. Two crewmen were rescued after a five hour struggle in rough seas. Captain A King and mate Howard Milstead received emergency care. Callicotte swam toward lights but Moore was lost in the darkness. Rescue efforts continued with salvage crews and Nelly the tug responding.

Looting at Four Corners Grocery Reveals Repeated Robberies

Deputies M. M. Brown and Paul Anderson investigated a fatal robbery at Four Corners Grocery where $2900 in cash was scattered. The suspects, described by witnesses, bought canvas gloves nearby and struck the money safe while avoiding the old records safe. Store manager Howard Wiedis reported closure around midnight and authorities note this is the fourth burglary at the Four Corners location, the second since new owners Via and partners took over.

State Fires Hospital Head Doctor Charged With Being Drunk

The Texas State Hospitals Board fired Dr. E. F. Dean, superintendent at Wichita Falls State Hospital, after two visitors alleged alcoholism. Acting superintendent Dr. Mark Ents will lead until a permanent replacement is named. A resignation date of December 30 was accepted.
