Baytown Pit Bull Shelter Controversy Sparks Outcry
Simien claims a pit bull puppy she cuddled at Baytown Animal Shelter was killed when it was slated for adoption after a three day stay. Animal Control Director Gary Chambers says no city policy mandates killing all pit bulls, only those with aggressive behavior. Simien, serving 60 hours community service for driving without insurance, says she was allowed into a restricted shelter area and formed an attachment to the 6 week old puppy before learning of its death. The case highlights perceived differential treatment of pit bulls at the shelter.
