Bayer Material Science Baytown plant returns to full capacity, meeting 100 percent of supply commitments as of January 1 after a September explosion that injured 22 and triggered force majeure. Site manager James Newport says root-cause analysis and safeguards have been implemented during redesign and rebuilding under investigation team oversight.
The City of Baytown Inspection Division logged 4.9 million dollars in permits for residential and commercial work during the period. New homes at 4305 Oleander Street and 4307 LTD plus others on Ashley Lane drive totals and a Kohl's department store project lead the residential and commercial activity.
Analysts say the slide in crude prices and a seasonal dip in gasoline demand could push regular unleaded toward January lows. AAA pegs national average at 2.325 per gallon, with heating oil costs also lower than last year. Traders note prices may not fall as steeply retail.
The Texas weekly AAA price survey shows regular self serve gasoline dropping to an average of 2.21 dollars per gallon statewide. Nationally prices also dipped to 2.32 dollars. In Texas the Austin area posted the highest price at 2.24, while Corpus Christi had the lowest at 2.14.
