MDD board approves soccer complex on North Main Street

Baytown Municipal Development District directors approved a draft agreement with Harris County for a regional soccer complex on North Main Street. Phase 1 covers 69 acres with four lighted and four unlighted fields, concessions and restrooms as planned.

Briggs case paused as prosecutors review death of child

Harris County prosecutors on Thursday paused plans to pursue or drop charges against Brandy Briggs after a forensic pathologist review. A Feb. 7 meeting was set as Briggs, 24, remains connected to a 2000 death ruled shaken baby syndrome at first. A new medical examiner has changed the death to undetermined, citing a birth defect, while the appeals court has yet to exonerate Briggs.

Parks board weighs Baytown Nature Center price hike

The Baytown Parks and Recreation Board discussed raising admission for the Baytown Nature Center at a Thursday meeting to close a persistent yearly shortfall of about $5,000 since 2002. Current fees are $3 per person, $25 for an annual pass per person, and $50 per family.
