Sickness Can Pay Off By Lowering Taxes
An employer sick pay exclusion may reduce taxes for workers out sick or injured last year. The exclusion depends on duration of absence and pay received. If full pay or more than 73 percent of normal pay is received, a 30 day wait applies, then up to full pay or 100 dollars weekly. For partial pay the daily or weekly exclusions vary with work week length and hospital stay can waive the wait.
