Unemployment suit affects farm workers in Texas

The Texas unemployment case, halted by snow, centers on the Unemployment Compensation Act for farm workers. The suit, led by the United Farm Workers and the Texas Civil Liberties Union, seeks to remove exemptions that exclude farm workers from benefits, with testimony highlighting long-standing discrimination and past state actions toward farm labor. Rebecca Harrington of UFW testified that 100 percent of farm workers could be affected if the exclusion ends, while noting historical struggles from 1966 onward and the recent Workers' Compensation Act expansion enacted last year.
