Best Defense in 2007 Prize Winner Giorgio Duboin Handles Deal

Italian Giorgio Duboin won the International Bridge Press Association prize for best defense in 2007. In a point a board event, the East hand faced repeated overtrick pressure as South opened light with 11 15 points, North invited game, and West held the club ace king. East defended through a diamond eight, shifted to spades, and ducked a heart to thwart declarer. South misfired on key decisions, leading to a down one after careful defensive play and a final heart misstep.
