Barbers Hill Eyes State After Lucky Seed Flip
Barbers Hill, after routing Beaumont Ozen 66-39 to win Region III 4A, earned the No 1 seed but a coin flip left Mansfield Summit as the state semifinal opponent at the UT Austin arena. Summit features guards Maya Hawkins and Ashley Eli who average 27 points between them, while Barbers Hill plans to counter with pressure defense and post play. Tickets for the Austin semifinal go on sale at the Barbers Hill Tax Office and UT box offices. MAPS and spectator info are online.

Flanigan Named Head Coach at Beaumont West Brook
Former Crosby football coach Kevin Flanigan was named the new head coach at Beaumont West Brook High School. He guided Crosby to seven playoff appearances and two district titles, replacing Craig Stump who left for Atascocita. Flanigan, 45, said coaching is his passion and that he will move toward the Beaumont area after briefly considering other work. He noted an earlier agreement with Crosby officials to step down after 2011, and he was one of five finalists for the West Brook job.
