Former Baytonian Jason Dizon, 34, won Wednesday's Jeopardy contest with $6,800, advancing to today's and Friday's shows on KHOU channel 11. Dizon, now a New York attorney, credited stellar spelling and trivia reading. he trained with UIL spelling bee wins at St. Joseph's and Sterling High School.

Goose Creek nears hydrant for Harlem Elementary amid line work

At a Monday board meeting Pete Coté said a 12 inch water line under Interstate 10 to Harlem Elementary is complete after early drilling obstacles. The project enables a hydrant outside Baytown limits, improving fire response and joint funding by Goose Creek and Lee College, with up to 170000 dollars from Goose Creek and rest by the college.

19th Gator Ride set to break 2,000 riders Saturday

The 19th Baytown Family YMCA Gator Ride aims to surpass 2,000 participants Saturday at Goose Creek Stream Park, following 1,600 last year. Donna Bowdoin, senior program director, notes last year raised over $50,000 toward the YMCA’s fundraising goal with 300 volunteers and civic support. The event offers four routes from 62 miles to 43 miles, attracting riders of all ages and plans to exceed prior funds.
