A San Antonio hospital reports 11 year old William A Scott who was shot in the heart by an air rifle during play with his 9 year old brother Sidimer is doing nicely. The incident occurred Saturday in San Antonio Texas.
Funeral services set for Mrs Avis Lee Long 44 of 2204 Naw Jersey died Sunday in Galveston hospital. Service at St Mats Methodist Church with Pastor Flo Wayne McCloskey officiating. Burial at Sant Javieto Memorial Park Cemetery under Paul A. Lee Funeral Home direction. Pallbearers named JLT Swint Z V Warren John Brunson Louis Fin Meldhert G C Swint Alien Rice. Survivors include husband Terry E Lang and two daughters Glynn L Willee and Glenda Long of Baytown. Brothers John L Weight Jimmy Weight W D Wright and sister Madaline Thomas.

Stewart Beaumont attends Southeast Texas district rotary conference in Beaumont. A car theft occurred when Mrs Barron’s 1948 Chevrolet was taken from St Jude's church parking lot. President Stark returns from NASB meeting in St Louis and Austin. Nolan, formerly Bob Nolan, appears on TV as Tim Nolan after back surgery. Altar Society plans a Tuesday meeting at St Joseph's parish house chaired by Mrs Leibham.
Washington February 25. Treasury Secretary Humphrey told the Senate Finance Committee that a $20 income tax cut for all is contrary to public interest. He called the plan unjustified and an irresponsible gesture, noting the House already approved it and Eisenhower may veto if the tax cut is tied to the broader bill. Democrats debate timing and compromise to avoid a party split as reconvening nears. Also, House committee held its first public hearing of the year, questioning John Timoirek and Julia Jacobse of the United Electrical Workers.
The La Porte Booster club will hold its annual banquet for ten Porte basketball teams at the Edgewater Tut in Kemah at 7:30 am Thursday. The event honors the senior high boys, the girls, and the junior high boys teams. John Holman serves as master of ceremonies while Fred Hartman will be guest speaker. Coach Frank Akin will announce lettermen for the boys, and Mrs. Esther Clamon will announce girls lettermen. Tickets are $2 and can be bought at the high school office.
Controversy at last week's City Council meeting over authorizing five Baytown ambulances to install police radios. With two members absent, three votes were cast in a 3 to 2 outcome. Mayor Pruett and Bergeton Jusle approved, while Clayton and Mears claimed non attendance. Legal ruling pending, attendance rules to be drafted.
Barbers Hill schoolboard will canvass last Saturday’s bond election results showing $225,000 approved by 4 to 1. 247 voters cast ballots. 201 for the issue and 44 against. Tax rate rise from $1 to $1.25 passed 42 to 58. Funds to build gym, repair high school, add to elementary, and site purchases. Board to meet at 7:30 p.m. to review bids. single or separate contracts undecided.
Mrs. Lena Lintelman mother of Baytown Fire Chief Art Lintelman is in serious condition at Baytown hospital after a Saturday fall. She broke her left hip and rib and underwent surgery on Friday. Children Leneshaan and Fred Vintelman of Crosby are mentioned as relatives.
Senate investigators reopen questioning of Harvey Matusow as he faces renewed scrutiny. Senator Eastland and Representative Walter express belief in his original testimony despite later claims, while Matusow and counsel plan to cover writing of his book and affidavits.
In Tokyo a general election produced a landslide vote with the Democratic party retaining power and pledging to seek coexistence with nations including the United States and the Soviet Union. The House of Representatives, elected Sunday, fills a new cabinet with Democrats leading and conservatives losing ground while left-wing groups gain seats. The anti-American Tett-See group made the largest gains and Socialist members edge toward blocking moves to revise the MacArthur constitution.
Senator Carley Durham, vice chair of the Senate House Atomic Energy committee, said atomic power could be commercially competitive within five years. He predicted private enterprise will push plants quickly with costs dropping to rival oil and coal, even water power, and that a plant could be built to hold the heat.
