Ex-Russian Premier Bulganin Dies at 79 in Russia

Nikolai Bulganin former Soviet premier from 1955 to 1958 died after a protracted illness. He joined the Communist Party in 1917 and rose to defense minister before Khrushchev ousted him in 1958. He later led the Soviet State Bank and headed Stavropol economic council. Born 1895 in Nizhny Novgorod, Bulganin came from a white collar family and had a commercial education.
