Two more candidates join the Lee College Board of Regents race in Baytown. John P. Henderson of 104 Merrilane and Milton L. Campbell of 128 Bayshore Drive enter the April 6 election, bringing total contenders to six. Henderson, a 23 year Humble Oil veteran, works at the Baytown refinery and serves in local civic groups. Campbell, a longtime Baytown public accountant and former city councilman, operates an office at 211 E. Pearce.

Allies Retake Hue Citadel Grounds in South Vietnam
South Vietnamese troops recaptured Hue's Citadel palace grounds from Communist forces after 25 days of seizure. A small force tore down the Communist flag, raised the government colors, and a battalion plus rangers cleared the palace area within two hours amid ongoing combat along the western wall and pockets of resistance in surrounding outskirts. The Baytown headquarters for George Wallace's American Party will open Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. at 1308 N Main with E. O. Reynolds and Mrs. Frank Abbey as chairs. Abbey will run 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and literature will be available. Wallace aides Chilton Bryant and Weaver Moore will attend. In Montgomery, Wallace’s party is certified for November, filing articles of incorporation. Stand up for America is the party motto.

PFC Carl D. Jackson of Baytown was awarded the Bronze Star for heroism during Operation Akron TIL in 1967.
