YMCA Gator Bike Ride celebrates 21st year fundraiser

The YMCA Gator Bike Ride marks its 21st year with more than 1,300 riders from across Texas. Proceeds support scholarships for families and children to participate in YMCA activities. Registration ranges from 20 to 40 dollars, with options from 6.2 to 62 miles. The event partners with Lee College’s 75th anniversary and features kids zones, live music, and the Bayou Big Band. Proceeds last year neared 50 000 dollars and aim to prevent anyone from being unable to participate.

Neighborhood speeding prompts city action on signs and reports

Police advised Erickson and residents to rely on formal police reports for speeding in residential streets. Patti Jett of the city stressed residents should not take matters into their own hands and that the system requires time to prove effective. If needed, the city will install speed indicator signs to monitor speeds and guide further steps. Erikson urged communal effort to protect children, saying slowing down is a small price to pay for safety.
