Sterling Rangers beat Dickinson Friday to finish 3-0 in pool play and secure a place in today's finals at the David Anzaldua Tournament in La Porte.

Yepez, 33, leads Our Promise for West Baytown, focusing on keeping at risk children in school, neighborhood beautification, and boosting police resources amid high crime. She has long lived in the area and aims to reconnect districts.
Baytown Junior School eighth grade girls joined Exxon Mobil for a National Engineers Week event featuring hands on experiments and engineering discussions. Event chair Liz Stavens highlighted the growing share of women earning engineering degrees from about 12 percent in 1972 to around 20 percent today, stressing the importance of female perspectives in the field.
Baytown City Council has not yet called a November street bond election but is discussing revenue division for the proposed 30 million package. In a Thursday work session they advanced planning for year one street reconstruction and allocation across districts. A $1 million certificate of obligation was approved to fund engineering and design so most groundwork is done by mid 2008 if voters approve the bond. If the bond waits, construction would start in 2009. District 1 Councilman Mercedes Renteria urged an equal funding split among districts, citing dissatisfaction with the previous Mill and Overlay Program distribution.
Burglars strike the Baytown Youth Fairgrounds on North Main Street after Hurricane Rita, stealing a new PA system and attempting to steal a tractor, following prior losses of air conditioning units. Youth Fair president Joey Enderli cited ongoing security concerns and damaged prospects for indoor events.
