Sterling Municipal Library opens in Baytown with open house

Thousands of Baytonians will tour the new Sterling Municipal Library from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday marking Baytown history’s first new library since the original building deeded by Ross Sterling in the 1920s. The $100,000 facility includes 60,000 volumes, an auditorium, story hours, and free checkouts for city residents. The event, led by Dr. Dorman Winfrey and library director, celebrates community support and the 1961 bond effort sparked by the Pilot Club and Friends of the Library as nearby public schools contend with the Asian flu outbreak and related absences.

Libya Quake Ravages Marj City in Eastern Libya

Dawn revealed the extent of destruction after a 7 15 pm quake hit Marj, a 11 000 resident city 50 miles northeast of Benghazi. Fire kills eight in Morefoule family home tragedy

In Morefoule Missouri a family of ten perished in a house fire. Paul Saville 47 and Shirley 25 alongside children Paul David Jr 10 Glenda Sue 9 Hester 6 Everett 7 Alvin 3 Michael 2 Zelda Mae 4 months were trapped in a one story frame dwelling. New Officers To Be Elected Methodist SJ Hospital Switch

San Jacinto Methodist Hospital will become a community hospital under Texas Conference control. A new board of trustees was appointed to guide the change with interim leadership by Rev. Larry Stokes.
