The project, starting 1978, aims to cut energy use and operating costs while maintaining safety and reliability.
Les McDonald and Pal Mann report a large solar heating project at the Federal Youth Center for Cau dill Rowlett Scott in Houston designed by CHS with Intertechnology Corp. at Warrenton. The facility aims to serve 500 young federal offenders with education, vocational training, and renewable energy cooling and heating, using plate collectors and a 1.6 million grant from ERDA. The system targets 95 percent space heating, 60 percent hot water, and significant oil savings, with monitoring across 25 000 square feet of space.
