Baytown City Council will discuss two public safety sales tax districts this Thursday, one for police and one for fire and EMS. Each district would levy a one eighth cent tax statewide upon voter approval on May 13, with separate votes and five year renewal. Estimated revenue is about 750000 annually per district. The council previously named themselves temporary board members. A public hearing is scheduled at 5 p.m. in City Hall, 2401 Market Street. Police Chief Byron Jones supports funding to add 10 officers, including a hot zone team and a commercial trucking officer.
Barbers Hill school board held a special meeting to fast track technology infrastructure for the elementary school. They approved a roughly $98,000 contract with Computer Solutions of Liberty to install wiring as construction runs ahead of schedule. The project is bond funded from 2002 and slated to finish in May for fall opening, with ceiling tiles and AC installation imminent.
