President Carter seeks $19.4 billion 1978 spending hike

President Jimmy Carter asked Congress to raise 1978 federal spending by 19.4 billion dollars. He says the budget remains largely Ford’s but with changes to avoid burden on elderly and health programs. Carter proposes higher overall outlays and a smaller defense build, including cuts to food stamps and Medicare.

Chambers County special meeting set by Commissioners Court

The Commissioners Court calls a special meeting for 7 30 p m Tuesday at White Memorial Park to discuss county employee issues. The Ladies Auxiliary to VFW Post 912 meets at 7 30 p m Tuesday at Mrs Louise Moravits home for a social. The West Chambers County Historical and Genealogical Society will not meet Friday as announced.

Water Plant Upgrades, Pool Planned in Mont Belvieu

Mont Belvieu City Council approved upgrading the water plant and the municipal pool project on Eagle Drive. The meeting outlined available funds including $298,000 in surplus and CDs plus $125,000 budgeted for water and sewer work, with $40,000 windfall from a franchise tax and plans for a Cherry Point extension.

Sewer Plant Sale Attracts Two Bids From Firms

The city received two bids for the Craigmont Sewage Treatment Plant disposal. Proler International proposed a 1500 disposal fee, while A-All Electric Co. of Baytown offered to pay the city 458 for the plant and removal.
