Baytown firefighters answered two calls Thursday night and Friday morning. At 10 45 p m they investigated a central heating unit malfunction at 3404 Lorraine with no fire found. About 9 25 a m Friday they responded to a car fire at 518 Morrell with minor vehicle damage.
The Texas Water Quality Board will consider a waste control permit for the Southwest Cryogenics Plant in Deer Park and also review a permit request from Trinity Bay Conservation Districts Oak Island Plant in Chambers County. The 9 a.m. session is in the Madrid Granada Rooms at the Sheraton Crest Inn.
Exxon reports January inventories of crude oil and distillates fell while refinery runs dropped and gasoline stocks held steady. Crude oil at 19 million barrels on week ending Jan 31, down from 20.8 on Jan 4. distillates at 17.7 million versus 19.5, with warmer winter and conservation lifting normal levels. Gasoline stocks remained 17.2 million barrels as refinery runs slipped to 1.05 million bpd for the period.
The Rev. Jerry Seale, a deaf consultant to the Texas Baptist Mission Commission, will speak during Ladies Night at 7 pm on Monday at the Optimist Building in Baytown. Lester Alford, club vice president, announced the event as part of a community-wide program with Optimist International on Spiritual and Religion. Clarence Johnson of the Texas Water Quality Board and J Milton Scott of the State Health Department fault the Harris County dump on Broadway Street La Porte as poorly operated with uncovered garbage and broken equipment. They urged action including possible legal steps. officials note it is not approved and call for better drainage and equipment.
