At a public forum in Baytown on Tuesday night Goose Creek ISD trustees weighed naming the district 14th elementary school after a Texas hero. Ten speakers urged honoring local service, with four nominees named among the 11 formal picks and three more added at the meeting. Exxon Mobil Baytown presents the West Baytown Civic Association with a 4000 check to fund an end of year May party for neighborhood students at Bergeron Park. The four hour event features face painting moon walk games snow cones hot dogs and a dunking pool with Patty Errico as the dunked volunteer. A prize raffle runs every 15 minutes with bicycles and electronics as prizes. A Baytown Fire Department truck will be present and organizers expect 1500 to 2000 attendees. The association, formed in 1988, oversees safety cleanliness and public welfare in West Baytown through collaborations with the city.
Crosby school district superintendent Don Hendrix, 63, reflects on a 21 year era of district growth and high academic aims. He notes turning a blue collar district into a place where college-bound students can achieve, detailing district-wide reading and writing overhauls and new facilities to support learning.
Chambers County Sheriff Joe LaRive, elected as a Democrat in 2004, announced from Austin that he is changing allegiance to the Republican Party. He cited his conservative views as misaligned with the Democratic Party and said Gov. Rick Perry welcomed him into the GOP during Chambers County Day.
