Harris County to press for Highway 73 bridge plan

A Harris County delegation led by W. Guseh, Nelson Mec, and Judge Bob Casey will meet the Highway Commission to push construction of the Highway 73 bascule bridge over the San Jacinto river and related routes. The effort aims to accelerate the Market Street bridge and the La Porte tunnel project, with a hoped opening around mid March but no firm date yet. Gov Hobby supports expediting the committee.

Baytown TB X-Ray Unit Schedules April Visit

The mobile X-ray unit will visit Baytown from April 10 to 18. Community groups including the Houston Harris County Tuberculosis Association and the Baytown Junior Chamber of Commerce coordinated the event. Public notices will announce locations and times to maximize resident access as in prior years, with a nominal fee charged last year to support the $28,000 mobile unit.

Rites set for George Spruce at Grace Methodist Church

Funeral services for George Hamilton Spruce Ti will be held at 2 pm Sunday at Grace Methodist Church with Rev M S Jordan officiating. Burial follows at Cedar Bayou Methodist Cemetery under Earthman Funeral Home direction. Spruce, Baytown resident 32 years, died Friday at his son in law and daughter’s home after heart ailment. He was a retired Baytown Refinery employee with 26 years service. Surviving are two daughters, a sister, two brothers, and four grandchildren. Memorials may go to Grace Methodist Church memorial fund. Shrine Show Tonight. The second performance of the Shrine club benefit show for crippled children will be staged at 730 pm Saturday in Robert E Lee high school auditorium. Baytown Film Made By Landsman Co To Be Shown Locally

Baytown will host a two reel movie produced by Landsman Production Co of New York with H E Brunson. Sol Landsman and Arthur Loevin will lead calls to civic clubs schools and merchants as Baytown grows. The project marks Landsman’s first Texas film after decades in local cinema and aims to chronicle city growth and services for Brunson theaters locally. Lee Students Win Honors At Meeting

Robert E. Lee high school students earned top honors at the state convention. Anton Goodman placed first in welding, Gene Lenai second in welding, Ray Mattingly second in auto mechanics, and Billy Delpes honorable mention in drafting.
