Baytown crime rose 16.47 percent in 1976 from 1975. Narcotics cases led increases with many large seizures, while larceny thefts, including radio thefts, surged 26 percent. Total property stolen exceeded 1.1 million dollars. recoveries topped 403 thousand. Murders rose to nine, robberies fell 1.7 percent, auto theft declined, forgery up 11.5 percent.

I-10 Crash Fatal to Baytown Woman on Interstate 10
A Baytown woman, Juana Riverra DeLeFuente, 35, died in a 6:05 p.m. crash on I-10 near Monmouth Drive. Two others, Jesus Flores, 20, and Herlinda Gonzales, 25, were hospitalized with chest injuries. A tractor-trailer driven by Raymond L. Mitchell, 23, was eastbound when Flores swerved into its path, sending their car into the median. no charges were filed. DeLeFuente’s body went to the Harris County Morgue.
