North Vietnam Attacked as U S Forces Resume War

North Vietnam faced heavy air and naval pressure as U S fighter bombers hit rail lines and supply routes and ships targeted coastal shipping. In South Vietnam allied units met light contact while air and Marine pilots flew a record 325 sorties in support. Casualties rose with seven from the 1st Cavalry Airmobile Division killed and four wounded when own artillery fire impacted their unit. A separate incident saw one 4th Infantry Division soldier killed and 14 wounded when a U S plane bomb went off course. a nearby claymore mine may have caused some of the casualties. First air strike since the truce began occurred at 1 07 a m against the Vinh Te bridge near Dong Hoi. Navy Intruders hit rail facilities in several panhandle areas amid limited weather. US pilots flew about 12 missions in five hours after bombing pause. A Navy Vigilante plane was shot down south of Haiphong with two crew bailing out and rescued despite small arms fire. North Vietnam claimed retaliatory raids as American air strikes resumed.

Four Aboard Baytown Plane Sought In Intensified Search

A single engine Piner Tri Pacer with Doyle Huron 33 and three passengers is feared lost after taking off from Beaumont Jefferson County Airport at 9 20 p m Friday. Coast Guard helicopter joined air search near the Gulf Sulphur Plant between Liberty and Anahuac after reports of additional reads. Civil Air Patrol said no more planes would be sent out until the copier completes a search. Four reports from residents matched the time and weather Friday night.
