Highlands VFD advances wildfire response with new slip-on unit
Highlands Volunteer Fire Department bought a new slip-on unit funded by an $18,000 Texas A&M Forest Service grant. The replacement unit adds auto start, a self-contained fuel tank, 200 gallon water capacity and multiple discharge outlets. Highlands VFD donated its older unit to a smaller nearby department as wildfire calls rise in the growing area. Texas A&M Forest Service officials note the program will distribute about $24.3 million to VFDs statewide this year.
