Texas Local Governments Brace For U S Budget Cutback
Texas local governments face major disruption as federal funding is cut under President Nixon's budget. Programs from community action to mental health centers may be taken over locally or scrapped, boosting local payroll needs and welfare costs while agencies like the OEO struggle with dismantling and redistribution across state agencies. Houston, Dallas, and Harris County anticipate impacts on emergency employment, library funding, and Model Cities, with job losses and service reductions looming statewide.
