A Chilean passenger plane carrying 52 cars and 82 aboard crashed near Los Valdes about 30 miles east of Santiago. The craft burned on impact at 11,700 feet. seven passengers joined a Chilean National Bank football team en route to play Bank of Montevideo. No survivors were immediately reported.

Jones of Humble Oil speaks at the San Jacinto National Secretaries Association seminar at Lee College praising the "uncommon woman" who ascends to higher levels through effort and courage. Funeral services for W M Dowell former Baytown resident were held at 2 pm Monday at the A M Church of Christ College Station. Graveside rites followed at North Walch. Dowell taught physical education and industrial arts at Baytown Junior High and later was a professor at Texas A&M University. He is survived by his wife Vera Dowell of College Station a daughter Susan Dowell of Austin two sons Dick Dowell of Wichita Falls and Randall Dowell of Wichita Falls.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr spent five days in jail in Selma and asked President Johnson for a meeting to push civil rights legislation including a voting rights amendment. He planned to press the campaign in Alabama with protests and a registration drive as arrests mounted.
Ralph M. Parsons Co has been awarded the contract for design and construction of the onsite facilities of the hydro cracking unit at Humble Oil Refining Co Baytown Refinery. The unit was first announced in September 1964 with an estimated total project cost of about 11 million dollars. The design capacity is 13 500 barrels per stream day. Parsons will move construction people into the field about August 1965. Estimated completion date for the project is May

Terms of three councilmen and the mayor expire this year. filing deadline is March 6. Election set for April 6 with a capital improvement bond measure on the ballot.
Soviet Premier Alexei Kosygin arrived in Hanoi and urged unification of Viet Nam under the North Vietnamese. Tass said he would offer weapons and seek to reduce North Viet Nam’s ties with China while strengthening Soviet Hanoi unity. The visit drew thousands and was broadcast by Moscow, with Kosygin calling it an important political action.
Baytown area schools reported high absenteeism this week due to flu and childhood diseases. J Robert E Lee High had 272 absentees of 2300. Alamo Elementary averaged 50 daily of 200. Donald Dawson gathers gear for another dangerous mission to locate his brother Lt Bartel Dawson, missing since a November 6 crash over Viet Cong territory near Bien Hoa. He fears the worst but hopes to find him alive or dead and return soon.
Baytown's bonds rated A by investment firms, among the highest in Texas, says Tom Masterson of Underwood Neuhaus & Co at a Friday chamber luncheon. If sold today, interest would likely run 3 4% to 34 percent. Voters will decide on major capital improvements. without approval tax would stay at 1.56 per 100, but with bonds taxes could rise to 1.6. Budget reallocation would divert 350,000 of 600,000 for interest and sinking fund. The talk praised city officials, planners, and consultants for aiding the study and bond program.
In Selma, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr warned it could take a century to register eligible Black voters in Dallas County. A federal judge ordered the county registrar to ease registration for prospective voters and speed the process, as leaders accused the board of moving slowly and criticized the revised literacy test as too tough.
