Baytown Mayor Stephen DonCarlos outlined a five year growth plan at a Baytown Chamber luncheon. He highlighted industrial and residential expansion, dropping unemployment, and an influx of over 20,000 construction workers and 1,250 permanent jobs. He warned roads will crowd as development accelerates.
Chambers County leaders from government industry and business travel to Austin for Chambers County Day. County Judge Jimmy Sylvia says the goal is to showcase the county to legislators and agencies. Attendees will distribute goody bags to lawmakers and attend a reception featuring Chambers County cuisine including fish oysters gumbo and alligator. Past events drew up to 500 people. the program began in 1997.
Sterling Municipal Library offers overdue fine relief through its Food for Fines drive during February. Patrons can donate non-perishable items to reduce fines up to one dollar per item, with credit limited to overdue fines and not usable for lost materials or other fees. Library Director Katherine Brown notes many patrons benefit from this program.
Three incumbents, Susan Moore-Fontenot, Dr. Keith Coburn, and Pete C Alfaro, filed for Lee College Board at large seats as joint election with Goose Creek CISD proceeds. Filing runs 7:30 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. weekdays and 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday, March 1 extended to 5 p.m. for final apps. Ballot placement drawing at 5:15 p.m. March 1 in the President's Office.
