Mothers March for Dimes Nets $3375 in Baytown Area

Baytown Highlands and McNair drives totaled 3375.66, down from 4549.25 in 1967, with Baytown at 2895.81 Highlands 403.70 and McNair 76.15 Crosby added 338.40. Mrs. Richard Battarbee county chair noted fewer workers and less giving as Houston Harris County totals declined. A Crosby drive led by Mrs. Horace Brazzell and Mrs. Burl Reynolds gathered volunteers and supporters despite a dog incident that ripped a volunteer’s dress, not her skin. The march headquarters were at Citizens National Bank.

Edward L. Whittenburg, 39, a Houston banker and insurance executive, announced his candidacy for Texas governor in the May 4 Democratic primary. Seven Baytown schools seek bids for improvements

Baytown school district will seek bids next week for about 1.27 million dollars in projects at seven schools including air conditioning and minor remodeling at 11 sites and additions at Bowie and Austin elementary schools. Bids on Bowie and Austin open Feb 29 with early March for others. plans distributed starting Monday for Baytown Junior, Carver and Travis.

Brooks Eyes Bond Election Regulations

State Senator Chet Brooks said he is pursuing a law to curb bond election frequency by city and county governments. He supports restricting resubmission of defeated bond proposals for six months to a year to curb wasteful tax elections. Brooks plans to discuss it with lawmakers before the 1967 session to draft legislation.

Huffman Woman Dies in Crosstown Crash

Sibyle Pritchett 36 of Huffman was killed when her car collided with a dump truck on U S 90 near Crosby. She was trapped, freed in 10 minutes, and died at Payton Memorial Hospital. Funeral set for Huffman First Baptist Church with Sterling Funeral Home handling arrangements. Survived by husband J M Pritchett, a son John Glenn, and two daughters. No charges filed.

Baytown pioneer Louis Pearce Jr to address Rotary Club

Louis Pearce Jr, longtime Baytown figure and Houston Livestock Show president, is returning to Baytown for a Rotary Club meeting. The Pearce and Herring families, early oil field settlers, recall shared years at Pearces and Ashbel, Trinity Bay picnics, and Pearce Avenue's 1918 development.
