Funeral services for Dorothy Michele Herring 16 daughter of Garrett R Herring Jr and Mrs John Schelihorn were held after dying in an Austin hospital. Burial followed at Smith cemetery near Montgomery with survivors including grandparents Mr and Mrs Garrett Herring Sr and aunt Mrs R C Stephenson all of Baytown. School Bus Safety Study Ordered By Trustees
Trustees have asked for a special report on school bus safety to be prepared for March. Questions cover routine safety checks, student instruction on emergency exits, and drivers’ fitness. The district averages 66 pupils per bus, with new runs limiting to 72 riders. Eligible riders live two miles or more from school and receive state transportation funds. The district also now transports kindergarten children in areas lacking kindergartens, while some riders within two miles cross dangerous streets.
