Rice study grant backs hydromagnetic wave research at Rice
Rice University received a 160000 dollar grant from the National Science Foundation to study the natural hydromagnetic wave spectrum in the magnetosphere. Professor Alexander Dessler will direct work beginning with a near Houston magnetometer observatory to collect local data and assess geomagnetic effects from Gulf of Mexico conductivity. The project aims to link hydromagnetic waves to atmospheric heating and satellite orbital variations, with several researchers coordinating observatory operations and data analysis.
