Baytown Sun revisits the life of Sidney Eugene Kelton known as Mean Gene Kelton front man of The Diehards. His widow Joni Kelton preserves his papers songs and unreleased recordings while a new book and a film celebrate his life and career. He died December 28 2010 after a collision involving a Crosby ISD school bus near Crosby Texas.

Harris County sues firms over 45 years of San Jacinto dioxin
Harris County Attorney Vince Ryan announced a lawsuit against International Paper Co Waste Management Inc Waste Management of Texas Inc and McGinnis Industrial Maintenance for discharging toxic dioxin into the San Jacinto River since 1965. The action seeks penalties up to 25000 per day plus injunctive relief and funding for remediation and public education. County lawyers say the EPA lists the site on the Superfund National Priorities List and a temporary containment structure is in place pending a permanent cleanup.

Chambers DA staff get state apportionment checks before Christmas
The Chambers County District Attorney's Office distributed 33388.25 in state apportionment funds approved by the Commissioners Court. Receivers Cheryl Lieck's staff including Rebecca Church Amy Tapp Kathy Ivel and Eric Carcerano each got 7197.48 while Danni Previte received 4798.33. The money funds salaries travel and expenses for assistants investigators and admin staff though Lieck herself did not receive a check. The funds, aimed at easing prosecutor retention, can cover leases supplies and day to day office costs but not capital equipment or travel by the district attorney.
