Texas wildflowers to be less showy this year
In Texas drought conditions, wildflowers may be smaller this spring. Damon Waitt of the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center cites little fall rain and drought across much of the state as the cause. He notes last year’s bloom was exceptional and seeds can persist in the soil for years, offering hope for next spring if rains return.

Boomer retirement fears rise amid depleted options and debt
Boomers face slimmer pensions 15 percent, rising 401(k) reliance, and a stock market flat decade. Housing bust leaves 11 million underwater mortgages while 55 to 64s show high debt. Many delay Social Security to 70, but costs of medical care, mortgage burdens, and unemployment strain persist. Nearly half of 65-year-olds expect to work longer, with 40 percent planning to work until they drop.
