Toys for Toys distributes 6000 toys to Baytown children

Over 3,500 children received more than 6000 toys books and stocking stuffers during the annual Toys for Toys distribution on December 12 at the Baytown Youth Fairgrounds. Josh James coordinator and Faith Family Church pastor credited 100 volunteers for the event.

Public mood on 2015 shows mixed gains and fears

A year end poll finds 17 percent of Americans say 2015 was better than 2014 while 37 percent see it as worse. Personal views are mixed with 29 percent believing 2015 improved for them, 21 percent worse. Mass shootings and terrorism dominate concerns cited by respondents.

Public concern on race violence and global issues in polls

Domestic polls show 44 percent deem deaths of blacks in police encounters as very or extremely important, fueling Black Lives Matter protests in Baltimore and Chicago. Similar shares rate Iran nuclear deal and Europe’s migrant crisis as important, with 40 percent prioritizing the presidential race and climate talks at 38 percent.

Ringing in the New Year Across American Celebrations

A survey shows 48 percent will celebrate at home and 20 percent at a friend or family home. Nine percent plan venues like bars or events, 22 percent won't celebrate. Fifty six percent will watch Times Square events, with 95 percent viewing on TV. Similar results to the past two years.

Texas set to legalize open carry of handguns next year

Texas moves to become the 45th state to allow openly carrying a pistol in public starting New Year’s Day. The measure passed after police groups and lawmakers compromised on licenses to carry, with officers signaling they may not demand licenses unless other grounds exist. H E B bans open carry in its stores

SAN ANTONIO AP Texas supermarket chain H E B will ban open carry in stores when the law changes in January and has posted signs at entrances. The company maintains a policy allowing only concealed carry inside stores.
