A man was found with multiple stab wounds beside Harrison Street in McNair around 1 am on Thursday. Deputies responded to a call of an unknown medical emergency and a homicide unit is seeking information at 713-967-5810 or Houston Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
Two robberies in the 900 block of Northwood Drive on Christmas Eve. A 48-year-old man was ambushed while delivering gifts. suspects fled in a 2003 Buick LeSabre and items were recovered. A separate incident involved a 23-year-old man losing a Rossi .38 revolver and $40 to a buyer who produced a firearm. Suspect described as “KP,” a black man 20 to 23, about 5 ft 11 in with a slim build and goatee.
The 47-year-old Robert Vargas Sr. has been identified as the victim in a fatal Christmas Eve house fire on East De Fee Street. Reported at 5:45 a.m., the two story residence was destroyed. Fire officials say the fire likely started accidentally from a space heater. One person remained unaccounted for initially, later found deceased on the second floor after firefighters entered the dangerous structure.
Mont Belvieu City Council approved a 10 million dollar purchase of 76 acres at the northwest corner of Interstate 10 and Eagle Drive. The Joni Anderson Trust retains 82 acres for potential residential development while the city plans a long term, slow build out with no immediate plans for the site.
A new AP Times Square poll finds Americans view 2013 as mixed personally but bleaker for the country and world. Fifty percent foresee personal improvement in 2014, 34 percent expect little change, while 14 percent foresee a decline. younger adults more likely to see improvement than seniors.
Cherry Creek Arena in Mont Belvieu hosts the South Texas 2013 State Finals today through Sunday after earning the AQA ranch sorting honor. More than 1,000 teams from across Texas compete as youth and amateur riders, with events running 9 am to 8 pm daily and prizes outlined by producer Robin Forrest.
