The Optimist Club of Baytown surprised a local family on Christmas Eve by selecting them for the annual Welcome Stranger event. For over two decades club members have partnered with local law enforcement to identify a vehicle with an out of state plate and stage a mock offense, delivering a positive message.
Five Harlem Elementary fifth graders Aranza Perez Ariana Rezal and Miriam Heredia along with classmates and families launched a fundraiser inspired by Ike casualty stories to aid the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in Houston. The effort grew from a shared concern for animals and included their school and community participation.
