Brazil celebrates Christmas amid heat and favelas
In Rio de Janeiro Christmas comes in midsummer as Brazilians join in festive lights and nativity scenes. Amid rising prices and a cruzeiro slump, families still spend on gifts, decorations, and traditional dishes like turkey or chicken with mandioca flour. A Rosary on Christ the Redeemer statue and a samba version of Silent Night reflect local culture.
