Jail staffing clash looms as he weighs options
Gregory notes rough numbers with 1100 applicants for the sheriff's department and over 1000 candidates for Precinct 5 Constable. Precinct 5 Constable-elect Steve Radack plans wide personnel changes. If the ruling stands, Klevenhagen opposes pulling deputies from patrol to jail duty, citing public safety. Harris County considers appealing to the Fifth Circuit, a move that could delay implementation for 60 to 90 days. The DA warns such a ruling could cost up to nine million dollars to hire about 300 deputies.
