Lee College to shift some business functions to data processing
Lee College regents voted to continue buying business office services from the school district while planning to move some functions to the college's data processing equipment. Peat, Mangrick, Mitchell & Co. advised three options, including setting up a separate office or transferring tasks to the computer, which would require a computer operator. The shift would affect payroll, budgeting, accounts payable, and related offices. An interim period was approved for implementing the modernization plan, with about three months to complete all recommendations.

Couple Wins Damages In Hurricane Carla Lawsuit
In Brownwood a federal jury in Houston awarded Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Blackburn several thousand dollars for insurance damages to their home after Hurricane Carla. Central Mutual Insurance Co. of Van Wert, Ohio faced the verdict. Rounding out the award were 311,542 for the house 6,150 for personal property 600 for living expenses and 4,298.62 interest calculated at six percent from Nov. 24 1961. Attorney Austin Bryan represented the Blackburns and also Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Dean whose case preceded theirs in Brownwood. The Blackburns call the decision a test case and the jury took four hours to reach it after a nine day trial. Doctor Randolph Blumberg testified as an expert on hurricane and tornado damage.

Hospital administrator Harry Britter announces the first phase of Gulf Coast Hospital construction. Hollis Construction Co. of Pasadena is the general contractor. The $3250,000 expansion adds an Obstetrics Pavilion, more parking, and interior remodeling including the cafeteria and surgery areas. Completion is targeted for early April. Contract awarded in October.

No Slowdown In Field Saigon Breather On Anniversary
Saigon enjoyed a brief lull on the fifth anniversary of the Viet Cong National Liberation Front but night violence continued. City says more civil defense gear still needed in Baytown
Baytown reported substantial civil defense equipment on hand but requested more. Civil defense director J Fletcher Hickerson outlined immediate needs including mobile communications gear, a mobile refueling unit, a rescue truck, an emergency generator for City Hall, and amateur radio networks. After nearly a week of rain Baytown area residents can expect fair skies through Wednesday with warmer afternoons. A frost risk exists Monday night and Tuesday high near 6 degrees. Two inches of rain fell Friday and Saturday at Humble's Esso Research and Engineering Co. December total is five inches, compared with a 5.58 inch average.
