Stateless Japanese prisoner sent back to Japan
Kawakita, a 42 year old stateless Japanese prisoner, left McNeil Island Federal Penitentiary after U.S. officials coerced his departure. After months of negotiation Japan described him as stateless. He was flown to Seattle-Tacoma Airport and turned over to Japanese consular officials. He expressed relief at prison release and intent to start anew in Japan with family support.
