Baytown District 194A results show Goose Creek Memorial girl defeating Robert E Lee in a district contest. Rotarians award a $1,000 donation to Baytown Historical Museum at the holiday social.
Lee College hosts a Community Farewell Reception for retiring president Dr Michael Murphy from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Performing Arts lobby. Incoming president Dr Dennis Brown will attend as a special guest. The board has begun a nationwide search with Gold Hill Associates. over 30 candidates applied and three final contenders visited the campus.
Robert Antonio Saravia, 26, last seen Feb 5, 2006 at a party hosted by Ray Narciso Contreras in Baytown. An argument with a prison gang member’s wife is alleged to have led to his beating, abduction, and death. Contreras, 36, faces a capital murder charge in Harris County and is in federal custody on an unrelated matter. See murder page 9.
Winners announced for the 2011 Christmas Decorating Contest along Texas Avenue and Defee Street. Judges visited businesses and residences, scoring independently before compiling results. Judges Choice went to The Treasure Shop, Santa's Favorite to The Baytown Art Center, and The Spirit of Christmas to Deja Vue. See winners on page 9.
Goose Creek CISD and 18 campuses receive 2011 Gold Performance Acknowledgments from the Texas Education Agency for high academic performance. Acknowledgments highlight commended TAKS, SAT/ACT, and AP/IB results across districts and campuses.
