The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals vacated Brandy Briggs 17 year prison sentence for injuries ending infant Daniel Lemons death in 2000 saying a jury would likely find her not guilty if her lawyer had properly presented medical evidence. The ruling faulted attorney Richard Anderson for not calling experts or pursuing doctors notes and medical history. A Christmas miracle was praised by Briggs mother Shelbia Goss who said she finally feels relief.
Katrina Armstead of La Porte received a used but refurbished vehicle donated by Bates Custom and Collision and partners in Baytown. The seventh annual program aids a needy single mother tied to Harris County Head Start, helping her gain independence through reliable transportation.
A Goose Creek school bus carrying Lamar Elementary students hit a dip on Fayle Street Wednesday, causing minor injuries for three or more riders. The bus continued to the school. one child was hospitalized by parents, two with EMS, all treated and released by mid morning. No traffic citations issued. The substitute driver Sabrina Parker faces a future return delay pending investigation. regular driver Cynthia Zamarron was absent sick. The district will cover medical costs via insurance.
An east Harris County man told Baytown authorities his son was shot in the stomach during a possum hunt in the 700 block of Sharon Lane near Garth Road. No charges filed. the incident is under investigation. The boy was LifeFlighted to a hospital in potentially non life threatening condition. Names of shooter and victim were not released.
For over 70 years Baytown residents join the Goodfellows during Christmas to donate gifts for needy children. Membership is based on generosity, not amount, with $3 or $4 donors counted as fully as those giving $100 or more. See Page 2A for details.
