Steel Protest Here Sent To President
More than 1,500 US Steel Texas Works employees signed a petition to President Carter opposing unfair foreign steel imports. Local 7756 president Habert Clowers and Texas Works superintendent Victor Glass said the protest reflects concern for the plant’s future. 423,000 tons of steel plate were imported in the first nine months, which they say could have created about 2,000 jobs here. An Atlantic Cable note follows about the 1858 completion between Trinity Bay and Valentia.
